Transition to Convenience Fees for Electronic Payments, January 1, 2025
When the city began accepting electronic utility payments, the processing fees were absorbed by the city. After reviewing that model, the City Council voted to move a model were the processing company, Forte, would collect processing fees from customers directly. This is known as a convenience fee model. Starting January 1, 2025, these fees will now be collected by the end user as part of a convenience fee model.
The fees apply to all types of credit card, debit card, eCheck, and ACH payments, including autopay customers. These fees are set by the payment processor and are not retained by the city:
- Card Payments: 2.5% of the transaction amount (minimum $1.95).
- eCheck Payments: $1.75 per transaction.
This change aligns with industry standards and ensures equitable distribution of costs. The city accepts cash and check payments from customers. Those payments can be mailed or brought into City Hall, 118 E Grand Avenue, Monday - Friday from 8AM to 5PM. City staff do not accept payments over the phone due to security issues.
