Water Treatment plant improvements set to begin. The Hillsboro City Council has awarded the contracts for various improvements to the water system, the largest part being the water plant. The entire project consists of improvements to the plant, including two new water filters, replacement of water lines and painting of the large water tower. "The improvements are to help us remain in compliance with new EPA regulations," said Steve Garrett, Hillsboro City Administrator. "They will also prepare us for the next set of new regulations as will. In this way, we anticipate saving our customers money in the future as costs go up." Currently, the Hillsboro Water plant is in compliance with drinking water standards. "The staff at the water plant do an excellent job," said Garrett. "Hillsboro is one of the few plants that have been able to keep pace with changing regulations. These improvements will only help us do this better." Water lines to be replaced include a line on Date Street from B Street to D Street and the water lines on Willow Road and Juniper Street. "These areas have been trouble spots for water leaks," said Garrett. The entire project is being paid for by a Rural Development loan/grant. |
