Parents As Teachers Program Details Marion County Parents As Teachers is a FREE program that
is supported by state and Marion County school district funds. It is available
to all parents and their children (birth-age 3). The goal of Parents as
Teachers is to provide all parents with the information, support, ideas
and resources to give their children the best start in life. They offer
monthly home visits, monthly group meetings, yearly developmental screenings,
and a lending library in which books may be checked out. Group meetings
are a great way for parents and their children to interact in play with
other children in the community. Group meetings also provide parents with
current developmental information, community resources and a way for parents
to support each other in their parenting. Group meetings range from Book
Buddies, Car Seat Safety Checks, Workshops on parenting issues such as
sleep, nutrition, and discipline to Field Trips to the pumpkin patch,
zoo and water park. The Annual Big Truck night has become a favorite among
the Parents as Teachers families. For more information, contact Lori Soo
Hoo, Coordinator/Parent Educator at 620/947-4041; Tonya Bartel, Parent
Educator at 620/947-4040; or Karen Elliott, Parent Educator at 620/947-4056.
