Grandma’s Kitchen-Cooking-Crafts & Games with the Residents

The Hillsboro Recreation Commission and Parkside Homes are hosting “Grandma’s Kitchen-Cooking-Crafts and Games with the Residents” during USD 410’s Spring Break week. Last year’s classes were very popular!  This year is shaping up to be just as much fun and more as a specialist from the Sedgwick County Zoo will be doing a presentation on animals from Africa for the younger kids.  Classes will be led by Parkside’s Dining Services team under the direction of Chef Rob Scott and Penni Funk.  Classes will consist of one or both days with lunch being provided.  Parkside is an award winning continuum of care retirement community located in Hillsboro.  Parkside has served the greater Hillsboro community since 1963 with its progressive and innovative approach to person centered care.  Parkside’s goal is to connect the young and young-at-heart through intergenerational opportunities.

Studio 23 Dance

The next session of dance classes will be offered at the city building starting September 12th. Krista Matlock will be providing classes to introduce ballet and jazz, along with technique fundamentals. These first classes will be arranged by age and will focus on beginning ballet and jazz basics. The class will be split in half with 20 minutes focusing on ballet and 20 minutes focusing on jazz. The plan for next semester is to arrange classes by skill and not just age. Krista comes to us from California and has been dancing competitively and on school teams since she was a little girl. She has taught dance for 5 years and coached cheerleading for 6. Our other instructor is Crystal Holmes, she graduated from Tabor College and teaches in the McPherson school district. She has taught dance for six years.
