What projects need a building permit?

1. New homes
2. Major Remodeling

   A. Kitchen

   A. Any structure change
3. Electrical (except for minor repair)
4. Plumbing (except for minor repair)
5. New Roof
6. Sewer line replacement
7. Fences
8. Sidewalks
9. New siding on existing homes
10. Window replacements
11. Foundation replacement and repair
12. Moving a structure in or out of the city limits

What are the property set backs in the city?

Set backs are 8 feet from the property line, on either side of your house.
Set backs are 8 feet from the alley and 35 feet on the front of your house
to the property line.

What should I do when I want to start a project that requires digging?

Before you start any project that requires any digging, you must call
Kansas One Call 1-800-344-7233
This is a free service provided to you by your utility company.

What are the requirements for contractors?
Any contractor working within the city limits must be licensed with the city
and be able to show a proof of insurance.

What are the requirements for doing a project myself?
The home owner may do the work themselves, but must have a building permit
and call City Hall (947-3162) for inspections as the job progresses.

Can I set a fence directly on my property line?
You may set a fence directly on your property line. If you cannot find your property line pin's, then must contact a survey company to survey or locate the property pins.
