Electric Department The City of Hillsboro owns and operates an electric distribution
system, Electric power is purchased from Westar Energy Billing and customer service inquiries are handled through
the city offices at It is the goal of the City of Hillsboro staff to keep the cost of electricity at a minimum. We strive to give the best quality service for the lowest rate possible. Electric rates are set by demand charges. The greater the demands, the higher the electric costs will be. Peak demands are usually reached between 2-7 p.m. (July, August & September), during the hottest summer temperatures. By reducing peak demands during these times, we can maintain lower energy cost for every customer.
