January 3, 2012

 

1. The city council met in regular session on Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at 4:00 p.m. in council chambers with Council members Byron McCarty, Bob Watson & Shelby Dirks present. Absent: Mayor Delores Dalke & Council member Marlene Fast.

 

2. Others Present: Jennifer Stultz, Hillsboro Star Journal; Dan Baldwin, City Attorney; Don Ratzlaff, Hillsboro Free Press; Larry Paine, City Administrator; and, Jan Meisinger, City Clerk

 

3. CALL TO ORDER – Council president Byron McCarty called the meeting to order at 4:00 p.m.

 

4. PUBLIC COMMENTS – none

 

5. MINUTES – The minutes of the 12-20-11 regular meeting were approved as distributed.

 

6. VOUCHERS – Motion was made by Council member Dirks and seconded by Council member Watson to approve the vouchers in the amount of $152,092.78. Motion carried unanimously.

7. RESOLUTION 2012-01 – City Administrator Paine said this was a redo of the resolution we adopted several weeks ago. The Kansas Power Pool is acquiring 7% ownership of the Dogwood Power Plant in Missouri. Motion was made by Council member Watson and seconded by Council member Dirks to approve Resolution 2012-01 – (A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE EXECUTION OF A POWER PURCHASE CONTRACT BETWEEN THE CITY AND KANSAS POWER POOL FOR THE PURCHASE OF ELECTRICITY.) Council was polled with the following vote: Watson, yes; Dirks, yes; McCarty, yes. Motion carried unanimously.

8. BOARD APPOINTMENTS – deferred

 

9. CITY ADMINISTRATOR’S REPORT – Council reviewed the 2011 Capital Projects list.

Motion was made by Council member Watson and seconded by Council member Dirks to approve the list. Motion carried unanimously.

 

Salary adjustment sheets are being mailed with the next pay stubs showing employees their fringe benefits.

 

The city has seen a 4% growth in sales tax revenues in 2011 over 2010. This shows that our local economy is doing well.

 

10. ADJOURNMENT – Motion was made by Council member Watson and seconded by Council member Dirks to adjourn at 4:10 p.m. Motion carried unanimously.
